Saint Arnold Santo

HOUSTON - Saint Arnold will release a new beer, Santo, on September 1st as reported recently by Craft Austin. This beer will be a limited-run dark koelsch-style ale around 4.9% ABV.

Rumors suggest this may be the beginning of a new series of limited-release beers by Saint Arnold, but no official word has yet been released.

Bitter-sweet

Beer, just like goodbye's, can be bitter sweet.  Take for instance Stone Brewery's Sublimely Self-Righteous Ale that was recommended to me my good beer buddy Brian. A strong American Black Ale that's sure you get your sense of smell and taste really going.

Poured into a pilsner, the first thing i noticed was the color.  So dark, that no light was able to travel through the glass.  A 1/2" nice creamy head developed at the top and the smell of chocolate and grapefruit immediately hit my nose.

Extremely complex taste.  It's plenty hoppy, a mixture of grapefruit and pine, but it has this full malty backbone with some notes of coffee and chocolate. It's extremely balanced, a perfect mixture of hops and malt. Very tasty.

I would again like to thank my buddy Brian, who i've had the pleasure of working with these last few months.  It will definitely suck not having him around the office to shoot the shit and talk about what beer's we've recently enjoyed.  He's off to bigger and better things, but i have a feeling we will still be talking beer a long time from now.

Cheers!

Beat the heat with a Saint Arnold Weedwacker!

When thinking of my hometown of Houston, TX, two things come to mind.  How friggin' hot it gets and Saint Arnold beer.  These guys not only run Texas' oldest craft brewery, but make some pretty darn good beer too! Take for instance, their newly released (June 2011) Weedwacker brew.  This beer is brewed exactly like their Fancy Lawnmower Beer except instead of kölsch yeast, they use a Bavarian hefeweizen yeast.  This big change brings on a big difference in flavors between the two.  Saint Arnold describes its taste as a light and refreshing beer but with a spicy clove note and some banana esters that come from the different yeast.

Needless to say, this is my perfect beer for beating the heat. And thanks to it's overwhelming popularity (and the cases upon cases i've purchased) will be brewed year round.  So, whether your working in the yard or sitting pool side (where glass is permitted of course; we're not criminals), Saint Arnold Weedwacker is a must enjoy.

Cheers!

Welcome!

Welcome to my beer blog!  Over the past year, I have slowly started to find a true love of beer.  Sure, like all of us, i've been drinking it for years.  For social gatherings like a good ol' BBQs, game nights or birthday celebrations, to just needing that ice cold beer after a long day of work.

I wanted to create this blog to showcase what it is that i've actually fallen in love with.  Craft beer.  Even though im still completely wet behind the ears as far as knowledge of craft beers, i wanted a place to be able to write about some that i have tried, would like to try and eventually attempt to brew on my own.

So be sure to check back often for updates, to post comments or to suggest your favorite brew!

Cheers!
